Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but your uncle wouldn’t allow it…

I may or may not have rolled on the Dungeons & Dragons treasure table to decide what Zara would keep in her chest.

On a vaguely related note, (“Speaking of something,” my father-in-law will say…) my son has been reading the entire Dungeon Masters Guide lately, like a psychopath. No, no, I jest – I’m actually super impressed. I played D&D at his age, but it never would’ve occurred to me to try to read the thing cover-to-cover. For us it was more of a reference book, you know? He’s just like me, except with an attention span better than that of a gerbil!

I guess he was at least partly inspired by Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which I took my kids to see in the theater. I gotta say, I absolutely loved that movie. It was like watching a really well-run campaign hosted by a DM with some serious story-telling chops, and played by clever, charming, and sometimes (charmingly, cleverly) obnoxious players. I think I actually embarrassed my kids in the theater at one point because I was laughing so hard I was crying.
